Otavalo’s animal market, street fairs and farmer’s stalls bring out the surrounding peasants who bear the simplicity, sagacity and humbleness to the stand.


All the women and most men still wear traditional garments and full outfits. The days sometimes seemed like an elaborate movie production, in which the whole city participated. It still looks authentic and forgotten in time.

Even witnessed a scene straight out of Almodovar’s Volver. But more on that another time!

then again, travel is so easy nowadays, that no place is ‘undiscovered’ any more
ahh, to live back in the time of explorers..
Is it that we appreciate authenticity because it is remote and unknown, or because it has not been discovered yet?
